A general term used to describe a card USCIS issues on Form I-766, Employment Authorization Card, to aliens who are authorized to work in the United States. The card contains a photograph of the alien and sometimes the alien’s fingerprint. An alien who has an EAD usually has open-market employment authorization, but there are exceptions.
