A notice sent to the applicant regarding a formalities issue where there is a shortcoming or area of non-compliance. Where a formalities notice is issued it is not the final decision regarding the file; the applicant will be given time to respond and correct any deficiencies. Very often, but not always, the issues in a formalities notice can be overcome. See s 41.
